Project Updates
The organisations we work with and support have been working incredibly hard over the last year to adapt and improve life for their communities. We’d like to update you on their work and the changes we've undertaken at Global Support Link.
NARUDA
NARUDA have been working throughout the pandemic to support the people of Nagaland to achieve their full potential. NARUDA have been teaching children from the Agun Ki (The House of Hope) so they can continue their education despite the pandemic. The younger children took their lessons and exams online while the older children were allowed back into the school for their exams. The children were able to have a day out together to celebrate their successful exam results.
As well as supporting Agun Ki, NARUDA have been working to educate and upskill unemployed youths. Many of the young people who returned to Nagaland from cities after lockdown were unable to find employment or something to do with their time. NARUDA set up a training course to teach them new skills and empower young people. They were able to learn new skills and present their work to the community.
BERUDA
As mentioned previously, BERUDA had an extensive and sustainable plan to help their community in North West Cameroon. However, civil conflict and the pandemic meant this was not possible anymore. Instead, BERUDA has adapted to support the local community in other ways. Including growing and selling Cayenne Pepper and supporting other agricultural activities, including farming and chicken rearing. These are all sustainable and locally driven projects that help provide opportunities to the community. The Cayenne project has been engaging young men in the local area so that they are not drawn into the civil unrest.
Recently BERUDA also helped Yvette by providing her with the equipment to set up her own hairdressing business. This is a step in the right direction to empower women in the local area and help them support themselves and their family. At Global Support Link, we are committed to supporting the rights of womens and girls in our partner countries.
REAL NEPAL
REAL NEPAL work with blind children in Nepal to ensure their right to education and a self-dependent future. Their REAL Dream Home is a residential school for blind children that arrive from rural parts of Nepal. The school teaches the children braille reading and writing, english language, daily living skills, orientation, communication and computer skills as well as general confidence building. The school also supports the inclusion of blind children into mainstream school once they have built up their skills and confidence.
Since March 2020, the students have been taught by phone because of the pandemic. This has been a huge change for the Real Dream Home and the children. They all hope to be able to get back to school in April, with government approval so that they continue to empower and educate future generations.
Sraddha Child Welfare
Sraddha Child Welfare work with children in Agra, India. They work with 400 young people by providing after school education by teaching English, Maths and Hindi. They also provide nutritious food that helps fuel the children's learning and hard work.
Sraddha Child Welfare supports these children to encourage their education to put them in the best position for the future so that one day, they can find a good job and support their families. During lockdown, they have had to close down operations but are slowly bringing the children back to school.
Goodness and Mercy Missions (GMM)
GMM works in rural communities in Cameroon who often suffer the most because of lack of opportunities and awareness. They are still working hard to help people improve the local area by increasing awareness and education about economic and personal wellbeing.
A major project that they have been working on is to build a vocational centre. Recently they were very proud to have a graduation ceremony for people who have trained in the use of computers. GSL is proud to have been able to assist GMM with many projects.
Board Reorganisation
At Global Support Link we’ve got some new Board Members who are all committed to the charity’s goal of supporting our partner organisations. These organisations, outlined above, are all working to inspire, lead and deliver projects to make necessary changes in their communities. We are working to grow the charity and increase the support we can provide to our incredible partner organisations. Please share and support our work if you can.
