Beekeeping Project Update: Building Sustainable Income for Women in Nepal
Since launching our beekeeping initiative in rural Nepal, we have been encouraged by the progress made in both participating villages.
The project was established to provide widowed and single women with a sustainable source of income through beekeeping, combining practical training with the resources needed to manage their own hives.
Progress in the First Village
In the first village, the women have continued to build their beekeeping skills and generate income through honey production.
One recent update highlighted the progress being made: one participant harvested four kilograms of honey for the fourth time. For women who previously had limited opportunities to earn a stable income, these harvests represent both financial support and growing confidence in their ability to manage their own livelihoods.
The success of the first village has demonstrated the potential of beekeeping as a practical and sustainable income-generating activity.
Growth in the Second Village
Following the success of the first group, the project expanded to a second village where thirteen widowed and single women began their own beekeeping journey.
Although honey production developed more slowly during the colder season, the village's proximity to forest flowers has resulted in exceptionally good-quality honey. Demand for the honey continues to grow within local markets, helping participants earn additional income.
The women are also continuing to learn practical beekeeping techniques, including hive management and colony relocation, as they gain experience and confidence.
Looking Ahead
The positive results from both villages have inspired more women to ask for the same opportunity.
We are currently raising funds to help more women access training, beehives, and ongoing support through the project.
